Only one swipe was required to light up my pale complexion with a very pretty, intense yet still plausibly natural blush. I applied Charlotte Tilbury's first, appreciating the beautifully smooth formula - which was almost creamy despite being a powder. Testing the two blushes revealed some key similarities. The knowledge that they were both highly-pigmented pressed powders - and so, likely to look far more intense here than on skin - convinced me to press on despite the surface differences. Charlotte Tilbury's two-toned Ecstasy blush consists of a ring of dark peach (for cheekbones) with a central blob of pink (for the apple). Rimmel's Third Base is one big expanse of blue-toned pink. I wasn't convinced the Rimmel Maxi Blush in Third Base (£5.99) was a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury's Ecstasy Cheek to Chic (£34) in the pans (Image: MyLondon) In their pans, they looked practically nothing alike. I tried not to look horrified when my prize was finally handed to me - looking nothing like the Rimmel blusher I'd just picked up. While I hovered by the counter one of them reassured me of my choice with an encouraging 'I love that one, I use it too'. There are nine shades in total and the one I was after (Ecstasy) was clearly popular, requiring the help of two shop assistants to track the floor sample down. Next up was John Lewis, so I could consult the original Charlotte Tilbury blush in the flesh. But even for £6.99 the sizeable palm-sized pan - which contains 9g of product - seemed decent value for money. Frustratingly and for no apparent reason, it cost a pound more than it does on. It was time to try it myself.įirst up, I headed to my local Boots, where Rimmel's five Maxi Blush shades were looking worryingly sparse - but I managed to pick up the last Third Base. Retailing for £5.99 on - and also available via Superdrug, Amazon and ASOS - it's won thousands of fans thanks to its lightweight, pigmented formula. This is the Rimmel Maxi Blush in Third Base. Rimmel's Maxi Blush in Third Base is said to be a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury's Cheek to Chic in Ecstasy - so I tested them both (Image: Charlotte Tilbury)
